History

 

1947 Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus formed the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) as a network for retired educators.
1955 Oregon Retired Educators Association was organized as a nonprofit organization affiliated with NRTA.
1958 Dr. Andrus established AARP, the American Association of Retired Persons.
1982 NRTA and AARP officially merged.
2019 OREA grows to 12 active units throughout Oregon.
2023 Currently, OREA has 9 active units.
