Convention Tours
Willamette Cruise
Sunday Evening, May 1st
Bus Loads at 5:30 PM.
Cruise 6:00-8:00 P.M>
Refreshments Provided

Captain Richard Chesbrough will give an entertaining narration of Oregon's historical past as we cruise the Willamette River on his 87 foot stern wheeler The Willamette Queen.  This will be an unique opportunity to experience travel as they did years ago and to see Salem and the surrounding area from a different viewpoint.

Master Gardener- Ted Haverkate

Ted Haverkate has been involved in gardening since he was three or four years old when he helped his mother with their "Victory Garden" during World War II.  Serving 28 years in the Navy, Ted had a garden wherever he lived.  Ted can explain "Square Foot Gardening" and "Vertical Gardening".  He can offer suggestions for our gardening success.




Tour 1


        First, we travel to the Willamette Valley Pie Company where we will observe while their guide explains their pie making process.  Then we will make our own small pies!  W will visit their store for a chance to purchase pies and other goodies to take home!  This tour MAY require climbing a flight of stairs.


     
Then on to the Adelman's Peony Gardens where Jim and Carol Adelman have been growing and selling flowers for twenty years.  We will have a guided tour of their gardens and showroom.  Wear a red had and receive a free red peony bloom!  There will be time to visit their gift shop.



Tour 2

      First, we travel to Roy John's Goldsmith ShopRoy John has been a goldsmith for 45 years and has always had shops in Salem.  He has been at the present location for 15 years.  He can design and make jewelry, do appraisals, and repair work.  He will show us the jewelry he has made and explain some of the unique tools he has.  Perhaps you can commission m to make something special for you!

      Then on to the Kettle Potato Chip Plant where we will get to taste test new possible flavors of chips.  Who knows you may be the deciding vote on whether they market a new chip or not! Tour of the plant or landscape may be a possibility.  There will be free samples of chips.



Tour 3
      We will be traveling to the Antique Powerland Museums.  On our visit we will tour one of the largest historical tractor museums in the country.  The tractor museum features many technological innovations.  There are many other old machinery on the grounds.  Other buildings will be opened if interest and stamina allow.  They also feature a Heritage Rose Garden.
